NEW: Download Estimates API, Changelog API, Historical Plan

We’ve released two new APIs and launched the “Historical Plan.” Now, with 42matters, you’ll have programmatic API access to both app download estimates and changelogs. In addition, our APIs now offer access to historical data.

Over the last couple months, we’ve been hard at work improving the 42matters product set, adding 11 new products and features to the line up. Last week, our development team launched two new file dumps for connected TV (CTV) apps: File Dump for LG TV Apps and File Dump for Samsung TV Apps. You can read about those here.

We also launched the brand new 42matters SDK Explorer, which enables our customers to browse the mobile software development kit (SDK) landscape to gain insight into SDK developers, app category market share, and a variety of other metrics.

Today, we keep the ball rolling with two new APIs, our brand new Historical Plan, and a couple small updates to the 42matters Explorer platform. In this blog post, we’ll be covering:

So, with that, let’s get crackin’.

Download Estimates API

At 42matters, we work closely with our customers to make sure they have the mobile app insights they need to build great products and services. So, after a number of our customers requested an API for app download estimates, we wasted no time getting to work.

Indeed, the new Download Estimates API is one of our most highly-anticipated products yet, enabling our customers to programmatically retrieve download estimates for any iOS or Android app.

Check it out:

By default, these APIs will enable you to retrieve 30-day download estimates for any app. However, with our new Historical Plan (more about which later) you can view download estimates going back as far as 365 days.

Changelog API

This one is fairly self-explanatory. The Changelog APIs facilitate the retrieval of comprehensive historical changelog insights for any iOS or Android app available on the Apple App Store or Google Play. This includes new versions, release notes, and more.

For more on these APIs, check out their product pages:

As with the Download Estimates API, the Changelog APIs will enable you to retrieve changelog insights dating back 30 days. However, with our new Historical Plan, you can see app changelogs dating back one year.

Historical API Data Package

So, what exactly is this new Historical Plan we keep mentioning? Well, by default, most of our APIs enable users to retrieve data dating back 30 days. However, with this new plan, you’ll be able to pull data dating back to as many as 365 days from the current date.

The Historical Package is currently available for the following APIs:

  • App Reviews API (Android and iOS)
  • App Rank History API (Android and iOS)
  • Top Charts API (Android and iOS)
  • Download Estimates API (Android and iOS)
  • Changelog API (Android and iOS)

Additional Explorer Updates

Now, before we sign off, we want to call your attention to two new features on the 42matters Explorer: regional download estimates and persistent column configuration.

Regional Download Estimates

As the name suggests, regional download estimates enable you to view the estimated number of downloads for any app by region or subregion. Check it out:

Download Estimates, Changelog, Historical Plan, Explorer Updates 42matters

To access regional download estimates:

  1. Click either “iOS Apps” or “Android Apps” in the “Explorer” section of the Launchpad
  2. Click on any app to open the app insights pop-up, then scroll to the section titled “Downloads”
  3. Click the region/country dropdown above the download estimates graph, then select the regions, subregions, or countries of interest to view the estimated downloads for each.

Persistent Column Configuration

If you’re familiar with the 42matters Explorer platform, then you know that the data columns that appear in the dashboard can be configured according to your requirements. The column configuration feature enables you to select the metrics you’re most interested in, while removing those for which you have little use. Like so:

However, until now, if a user refreshed the page, the column configuration was reset to the original settings. So, to make your life easier, we’ve added persistent column configuration to the Explorer. This means that anytime you refresh the page, you’ll still have your preferred column layout when the page reloads!
