Immersive social media app ‘VUZ’ has raised $20 million to scale its business. So, we analyzed the app’s performance for 2022, year to date.
VUZ, a leading immersive social media app, raised $20 million in Series B investment, led by a cohort of international investors like Caruso Ventures, Vision Ventures VC Fund, e& capital, Dubai Future District Fund, SRMG, and Webit Investment Network.
The VUZ app — formerly known as 360VUZ — is a web3 platform that offers more than 20,000 hours of free and premium digital content, including live events, concerts, celebrity interviews, masterclasses, and an array of XR, VR, and AR experiences. The company plans to use their newly raised funds to scale operations. They’re particularly focused on hiring and adding new social features, web3 products, and NFT projects to their line-up.
So, in light of their successful funding round, we wanted to see where the VUZ app currently stands in the global app market. Here’s what we found (click the links to jump to the relevant sections):

VUZ Has Surpassed 750,000 Global Downloads in 2022
This chart depicts daily global downloads for the iOS (green) and Android (blue) versions of VUZ between January 1st, 2022 and October 18th, 2022.
These apps have combined for 766,229 downloads in 2022. This includes an average of roughly 1,600 daily Android downloads and 700 daily iOS downloads. That said, the Android version of VUZ maxed out at 6,131 downloads on January 5th, 2022, while the iOS version topped out at 3,228 downloads on August 27th, 2022.
These numbers aren’t particularly remarkable, but they’re not bad either. VUZ definitely has a solid base on which to build.
VUZ Ranks in 18 Google Play Top Charts and 7 Apple App Store Top Charts
The global top charts provide an interesting glimpse into the success of VUZ. Currently, the Android version sits among the top ‘Entertainment’ apps in 18 countries, while the iOS version ranks among the top ‘Entertainment’ apps in 7 countries.
You’ll notice that VUZ has been especially successful in the MENA region. Particularly in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, where VUZ has been downloaded a combined 306,579 times in 2022. That makes up 40% of VUZ’s total 2022 downloads.
However, VUZ Monthly Active Users (MAU) Are Down 54% in 2022
Finally, let’s look at Monthly Active Users (MAUs) for the Android version of VUZ.
At the beginning of 2022, the app registered approximately 258,357 MAUs. By September 2022, VUZ notched just 118,780 MAUs, a 54% decrease from January.

VUZ is a slightly different beast, however. While BeReal and The OG App are straightforward rebukes of contemporary social media trends (think: high-octane content curation, face filters, and tiktokification), VUZ takes no apparent issue with these. Instead, their commitment is to Web3, NFTs, and the creation of unique AR, VR, and XR experiences.
Nevertheless, even with their successful Series B funding, VUZ has a long way to go. Their 766,229 global downloads in 2022 are a solid start, but lightyears behind the likes of Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
