What Are Monthly Active Users (MAU)?
We’ve covered this before in an article where we introduced the Explorer’s MAU capabilities. But to recap, MAU refers to the number of unique users who have visited an app within a 30-day time frame.
MAUs are a common key performance indicator (KPI) since they can be used to measure the popularity of apps, websites, and other digital mediums, as well as the general health and performance of the businesses that operate them.
Overview of Google Play App Monthly Active Users History API
Similar to the Explorer’s MAU functionality, the Google Play App Monthly Active Users History API enables you to retrieve comprehensive historical MAU estimates for any published or unpublished Android app available on Google Play.
The default version can be used to track MAU trends going back three months, while the ‘Historical Data’ package enables you to review MAUs from as far back as one year.
And, of course, the data is date-stamped, so you can sort it according to either the oldest or most recent numbers.
Supported Countries and Languages
The Google Play App Monthly Active Users History API supports dozens of languages and tracks MAUs across 140+ countries.
For added convenience, it comes with a region-specific filter so you can compare global MAUs without having to query country by country.
Choosing the Right Plan with 42matters
In order to use the Google Play App Monthly Active Users History API, you’ll need our ‘Large’ plan. This will give you three months of MAU insights for any Android app.
However, as mentioned earlier, you can add the ‘Historical Data’ package to track MAUs as far back as one year.
Whichever plan you choose, each request via the Google Play App Monthly Active Users History API requires 150 hits, with a rate limit of 3 QPS.
