Over the past few months, we’ve received quite a few requests from our loyal customers concerning the possibility of adding historical app download data to the 42matters Explorer.
Well, ask and you shall receive!
Indeed, while we’ve long given our users the ability to track estimated daily and monthly downloads, we’ve been hard at work adding a new feature that will enable users to search historical download data, for any app, going as far back as one year.
So, because we will be unveiling this feature in the coming days, we thought we’d take you on a quick tour!

How to Get Historical App Download Data From the 42matters Explorer
First, navigate to the Explorer’s launchpad. Then select either “Android Apps” or “iOS Apps”:
This will open up the Explorer’s dashboard, from which you can select any app of interest. We’ve selected the Android version of YouTube:
To view downloads, open the app’s pop-up by clicking on the app in the dashboard. Then, scroll to the “Downloads” section:
To view historical download data, use the calendar drop-downs to set the time period you’re interested in:
You can view downloads for any period as far back as one year from the current date. Here are download estimates for the Android version of YouTube between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020:
You’ll notice that the data in the chart is quite compact. This is because we’re depicting daily downloads. If you want something a little less granular, you can also do weekly download estimates:
And monthly downloads:
Last but not least, you can even add country-specific filters to calculate estimated downloads by country:
That’s that!
Please note that Historical App Downloads will be available only to customers who sign up for the historical package. Without this upgrade, users will see the standard 30-day graphs.
